PARIS -- June 21, 2007 -- MySQL AB today announced that all the database applications behind the Skyrock and Skyblog Web sites -- Europe’s largest blogging platform -- are based on MySQL. The European leader plans on future international expansion, relying on the world’s most popular open source database.

According to Alexa Web Rankings, only Google.fr is more popular than Skyblog in France.

MySQL powers the entire Skyrock network, which includes Skyblog, Skyrock, Skymobile, Skyrock Messager, Tasante, Ladiz, Tropmalin, and Bonbiz. This represents a volume of over one terabyte of data. More than ten million blogs have already been created on the Skyblog platform, and the MySQL database servers handle 11,000 queries per second.

MySQL 5.0 covers all Skyrock’s database requirements for high availability and performance, including internal IT applications. An early adoptor of MySQL, Skyrock continues to develop its infrastructure to keep pace with the rapidly increasing number of blogs, addition of new web services and the growing volume of data. Skyrock has implemented the popular ‘Scale-Out’ architecture, which allows them to grow their infrastructure by adding MySQL databases on lower-cost commodity hardware. Currently, 20 replicated MySQL servers contain 100 GB of data each.

Scale-Out is a modern computing architecture that enables organizations to improve application performance and scalability on an incremental, as-needed basis by adding multiple replicated database servers on low-cost commodity hardware.

According to Jérôme Aguesse, Web Production Director at Skyrock, “MySQL is the best database for us. It is cost-effective, fast, robust, reliable, and requires very little administration. It’s an extremely flexible and scalable product. Its replication features confer high scalability to our applications.”

Skyrock continues to grow and is planning to launch a worldwide blogging platform in the near future, which will be based on MySQL. Jérôme Aguesse continues “We’ve always received excellent advice from the expert consultants of MySQL France. In addition, the new generation of Web developers grew up on MySQL, which is another great benefit of relying on MySQL.”

Bertrand Matthelié, MySQL’s Director of Marketing for EMEA states, “MySQL and the modern Scale-Out architecture allows fast-growing companies to cost-effectively develop their infrastructure, according to their needs, and to benefit from superior performance, scalability and reliability. We are delighted that the leading European blogging platform is relying on MySQL to power its phenomenal growth.”
