Here are the PHP stats for May 2008. To learn about methodology, read la section phpversion. 28.4 millions servers hosted on 2.1 millions IP were surveyed during May, and 12.7 were used for stats : domaines without web sites, those unreachable, ISP, shared hosters or domain parkings were not considered.

PHP is found on 33,06 % of web sites, stable from last month. PHP market share is stable.
PHP version distribution[^]
This graphic displays the market share of each PHP version. The blue graph represents
the sum of all preceding versions.
PHP 4.4.8 is again the most popular version of PHP, making PHP 5.2.5 2nd again : this version is now recessing, due to the publication of PHP 5.2.6. All in all, it seems that the length of availability time is a key factor to make a large user base, which is a winning argument for PHP 4.4.8 and 4 in general.
Increasing versions[^]
This graph present PHP version who gained web sites during December. For each version, we counted the number of web sites adopting a version, and abandoning it. Finally, we made the difference between the figures. This graph presents only versions who lost ground during the month. Figures are displayed as percentage of migration.
PHP users divide between PHP 4.4.8, 5.2.5 and 5.2.6. The first one is attracting as much users as the two others, making it again the most popular version of PHP.
Attention : migration stats are pretty difficult to explain, given the high number of combinaison (origin version and destination version). The above figures are indicators,and in no way exact representations.

PHP major version distribution[^]
This graphic represents the PHP major version distributions : 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
PHP 5 reaches 36,98% of the whole PHP market, with a noticeable slow down from last month, but a net positive growth again.
Besides PHP 4, all other major version are negligeable.
PHP 4/5 middle version distribution[^]
This graphic represents PHP middle version distribution for PHP 4 and 5.
Nothing new on this front : PHP 5.2. is going up, 4.4. down but ranking isn't changing.
PHP 4.3/4 minor version distribution[^]

PHP 4.4.8 is now 3 % ahead of PHP 4.4.8, with strong growth.
